In October 2024, I was invited by Heavyweight Digital Type Foundry to visit their headquarters in Prague, Czech Republic. The trip offered a rare behind-the-scenes opportunity to look at their creative environment, meet the team, explore their sources of inspiration and better understand the ethos behind their work.

Over several days, I captured moments that reveal the quiet rhythm of the studio and the character of the people behind the foundry: Jan Horčík and Filip Matějíček. Proofs pinned to walls, shelves stacked with type books, quiet conversations over long desks and home brewed coffee. These images offer an intimate portrait of Heavyweight’s world where nothing is staged nor retouched — they are a testimony of their subtle choreography.

Beyond the office, the documentation extended into the city itself. Autumn light and Prague’s elegant architecture echoed the foundry’s design sensibility: structured, precise, yet deeply human. Long walks added layers of context, offering a broader sense of place and perspective.

Shot entirely on 35mm film, the series reflects my ongoing interest in storytelling through analog processes. Rather than staging or directing, I focused on observing small gestures, workspaces filled with prototypes and printed tests and long conversations about design.

At its core, this project is a reflection on presence — on the people, spaces, and textures that surround the work but rarely make it into the final output. It’s a quiet study of process and atmosphere, captured in a medium that invites slowness and attention. A way of seeing that values not only what is made, but how and where it comes to life.

Shot on Kodak Ultramax 400 with a 2004 Minolta Dynax 60. Films developed and scanned by Jacobo Biarnés Photo Studio. Special thanks to Jan Horčik, Filip Matějíček, Martin Kolerus, and Michal Landa.
